Spacecraft NEAR Shoemaker in orbit around asteroid 433 Eros found out earlier this month when it recorded its first fly-over sequence. The saddle region of the Sun-orbiting space-mountain appears to zip past the camera in this condensed hour-long time-lapse sequence. The spacecraft was orbiting about 200 kilometers above the asteroid. Movies such as this are scientifically useful for discerning between regions that are naturally dark and regions that have their brightness dominated by shadows.... Topic: asteroid
You're in the center of a very small asteroid field - perhaps the remnants of some dwarf planet or moon smashed to pieces and slowly being pulled back together by the gravity from an unseen mass at the center. Set against a starry nebula, these spinning, rotating and jittering asteroids catch and block light from the nearest star in a dance of radiance. http://www.dvdmenubacks.com. The Galileo flyby candidates 951 Gaspra and 243 Ida are both in families. The former is in a complex of families associated with 8 Flora and the latter is in the Koronis family. The Flora and the Koronis families are described. The Galileo spacecraft will have the opportunity to sample fragments from two types of impacts; one impact totally destroyed the parent body and the other left a large body behind. The types of Ss are also different, the colors of Gaspra and the other Ss in the complex... Surviving a tidal wave. Crazy but it might work. If it does what's next? N.Torres 2015 ======= After some research I have learned Efraim Rodriguez has indeed made predictions that did not come true. He is a flase prophet. Yet others have picked up on the meteor scare. It seems there are many so-called prophets who think they can lie in the name of God to further the kingdom, because the end justifies the means. The idea is to cause the most sensational controversy to get the most attention... Topics: Tsunami, Meteor, Tidal wave, Asteroid, Doomsday
Armageddon is a 1998 film starring Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis, and directed by Michael Bay. It tells the story of an enormous asteroid heading for a collision with the Earth, and the rag-tag bunch of oil workers sent up to the asteroid to drill a nuke into it and blow it up before the world gets smushed. But in terms of the science, is it more like training oil workers to be astronauts and saving the world, or a crazy Russian alone in Mir with Space Dementia? The overall risk for any spacecraft system is typically determined using a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). A PRA determines the overall risk associated with a particular mission by factoring in all known risks to the spacecraft during its mission. The threat to mission and human life posed by the micro-meteoroid and orbital debris (MMOD) environment is one of the risks. NASA uses the BUMPER II program to provide point estimate predictions of MMOD risk for the Space Shuttle and the ISS....
